About Proactive Wellness

“A person who has their health has many dreams. A person without health has only one.”

Your health is your greatest asset!

That being said, most people in America are being led down the wrong path when defining and understanding true health. In America we judge health by how we look and feel. Unfortunately, that has led us to becoming one of these sickest countries in the world. Can you develop heart disease (#1 killer in America) and not feel it? Can you develop cancer (#2 killer in America) and not feel it? Of course the answer to these 2 questions is YES! Further, because these two diseases are so prevalent I’m sure each person that reads this has had a family member or loved one effected by both of these diseases.

So what is true health?

proactive_wellness1How do we know we are healthy? The World Health Organization (WHO) defines health as “the optimal functioning of the body”. This means that your heart, lungs, liver, kidneys, digestive system, immune system, all organs and systems in the body are functioning at 100%, their optimal function.

What controls all function in the body?

The brain! The brain and spinal cord (extension of the brain) are the first matter, first organ and first system created in the human body. The brain, spinal cord and spinal nerves help make up the master system of the body, which is the nervous system. For your heart to beat, lungs to breathe, to digest food properly, life messages (nerve impulses) must travel from the brain, down the spinal cord, out the spinal nerves to those specific organs and back again without interference.

“If you don’t take care of your body, where are you going to live?”

Proactive vs. Reactive

proactive_wellness2A person that is proactive with their health is essentially working on a daily basis to keep their health in their own hands. Human beings are all habitual, and it is our habits that create our reality. The more healthy habits we put into our daily life the better chance for wellness while minimizing the risk for sickness and disease. When I speak on proactive health I am certainly talking about nutrition and the food we eat. I am also talking about physical exercise. Further, the daily habits like sleeping, posture, sitting at a desk and talking on the phone are just as important. Stress is a daily occurrence and builds over time. Proactive wellness habits help to limit long-term stress, along with keeping you mentally “checked in” when thinking about your health.

proactive_wellness3A reactive person will normally put their health on the back burner until the symptoms become unbearable or the doctor diagnoses them with an illness, condition or disease. Being reactionary with your health yields a greater risk of sickness and disease much earlier in life. A reactive person will also be forced to consume drugs and medications as well. There is a time and place for medications, and that time is crisis care. The unfortunate fact about medications is that each and every drug has side effects. The more we consume, the greater risk for serious side effects. Even worse, drugs will never cure or heal your health problems. They are simply there to mask the symptoms.

“The best and most efficient pharmacy is within your own system.”

Symptoms are good?!

In America, our healthcare system is set up to address the effect or the problem (symptoms) and not treat the cause. Thus, making our country more sick with a false-sense of being healthy. Symptoms are perfect! They are designed to be warning signs to alert us when there is dysfunction happening in the body. Does it make more sense to cover up the alarm(s) going off in our body or to address them by finding the cause of the problem and correcting them? Answer: unless you find the cause you will never improve the problem and you will never be able to re-gain true health.

Can chiropractic cure the cause?

First of all, no chiropractor ever cured anything. Further, no medical doctor ever cured anything. Everything that is cured is done so through the living body. Within your body lives your greatest doctor! Every pain-killer, every muscle relaxer, every anti-inflammatory and every feel good hormone is already within the human body. The job of a chiropractor is to examine, assess, locate and correct “subluxations” in the spine and body.

proactive_wellness4Subluxation (sub-meaning “less than”, lux-meaning “light”) — a misalignment of one or more bones causing pressure or irritation on one or more spinal nerves “pinched nerve”. Your nervous system “the master system” controls and coordinates ALL the functions of your body. If you interfere with the signals traveling over nerves, parts of your body will not get the proper nerve messages and will not be able to function at 100% of their innate abilities. In other words, some part of your body will not be working properly. Over time this breeds the dis-ease process. When the nerve pressure and interference is removed the body’s own innate healing ability is restored. This allows for the body to resume functioning at a higher level as the body gets healthier.
